When we first relocated to Florida almost 20 years ago, Martha took a job in insurance since that was our area of expertise. She was gifted in it and learned a lot but it was evident that it was not her calling, it was a j-o-b. She eventually ended up running the bookstore where we attended church. This job used many of the skills that she had accumulated over the years and allowed her to nurture her staff and customers, this was a calling.

Do you have a job or a calling? A job is something you do, often for compensation. A calling defines who you are and what you are created to do.

So, what is your calling? Have you ever taken the time to consider the answer to that question? Does your calling change as you get older?

There are many ways to figure out what the calling is on your life:

Sometimes the TV is so loud that I can’t hear my wife, Martha asking me a question. I have trouble talking in the car if the radio is on. It seems like I can only really listen to one thing at a time. There are so many voices fighting for my attention, how do I choose? There are Voices on TV, radio, podcasts, online and in person. How do you and I turn down those voices so we can hear the voice of Truth?

What if today, we worked as if the living God and His wisdom were inside us? Would we be doing different work? In a different way? Would we think higher, grander thoughts? Would we expect and GET bigger results?

Hearing God’s voice is a discipline that takes time. Recognizing His voice is similar to controlling your breathing during a panic attack. Both eventually become 2nd nature, and so will hearing the voice of God.

Priorities. Where we spend our time is the surest barometer of where our heart and priorities lie.Have you ever thought about if you’re REALLY living your priorities?

You can still believe in God and still be doing most things from your own knowledge and strength. But TRUSTING God is going ALL IN. Are you just believing IN God, or are you really living as though you TRUST God?

We (iWork4Him) stepped into the water 6 ½ years ago when we first started broadcasting our show one night a week. Has God ever asked you to touch your feet to the water? It takes a lot of faith doesn’t it?

I love the feeling of change so much that I tend to crave the challenges it brings. Sometimes God asks us to stay the course and be patient with His plan that will eventually take us into new wonders. However, I find not changing hard.

The assumption is that retirees are comfortable financially and mentally, have their health, have many friends and EVERYBODY is doing it.  Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t make it right.
