Thriving Amid Hardship

In this inspiring interview from the most recent Outcomes Conference, we talk with Joni Eareckson Tada about what it looks like to thrive amid hardship and create a flourishing life amid suffering and limitations. Joni is the CEO and Founder of Joni and Friends. Having spent 54 years in a wheelchair herself, Joni uses her ministry to bring hope and dignity to individuals with disabilities across the globe. At this time, she is 72 years old, a quadriplegic, has cancer, aftereffects of COVID-19, and chronic pain… and yet God has met her right where she is.

When we asked Joni to tell us how she promotes thriving among her 180 staff members, she said its all about healthy life integration, dealing respectfully with conflict, and really listening to employees. She also mentioned the Lead Like Jesus Training and Best Christian Workplace Institute Survey (tools you can use in your workplace!) Joni’s precious transparency allowed us a glimpse of a full life cultivated through the power of prayer, singing hymns, and clinging to scripture.

Bonus Interview With iRetire4Him Author Jeff Brown

Everybody feels alone sometimes, especially when unexpected circumstances arise. Chaplains are a way for your company or organization to show its employees that they are not alone by building caring relationships over time! Chaplains provide one-on-one, grassroots ministry to employees that may never have set foot in a church before. Whether it is support through a crisis like suicide, family loss, illness, or financial distress, or a celebration like a new marriage, baby, or promotion. Whatever the life situation, chaplains are able to offer the power of presence – God’s presence!

Jeff Brown is a contributing author to Chapter 12 of our new book, iRetire4Him: Unlock God’s Purpose for Your Retirement.

Bonus Interview With iRetire4Him Author Bob Spence

Retirement isn’t in the Bible. True story! We were never meant to work for 30 years and then go on a 30-year vacation. Instead, God’s intention is that we would have a purpose throughout our entire life. In other words, retirement isn’t VACATION; it’s a JOB CHANGE. In this bonus interview with our personal mentor, Bob Spence, we talk about intentional retirement, ministering in the second half of life, and cultivating a mission, vision, purpose, and core values.

Bob Spence is a contributing author to Chapter 15 of our new book, iRetire4Him: Unlock God’s Purpose for Your Retirement.

Celebrating Our Blue-Collar Workers

At the ripe old age of five, Dave Hataj started working in the family business, Edgerton Gear, Inc. Although he was labeled as not being “college material,” Dave was hesitant to settle into a life of working in the gear business. However, as he wrestled with what he was meant to do with his life, God spoke to him in a way that changed his trajectory… not by taking him out of the business but by showing him that the business was his ministry. There are so many golden nuggets in this interview, and we can’t wait for you to listen and hear all that God has been doing through the work of Dave Hataj!

“Community” and “purpose” are two topics near and dear to Dave. You can learn about Dave’s ministry at craftsmanwithcharacter.org when you listen to this week’s show.  Oh, and we are giving away a copy of Dave’s book Good Work: How Blue-Collar Business Can Change Lives, Communities, and the World to 5 listeners! From Ditches to Destinations

Nearly 92% of Americans believe in God but 70% don’t have an ongoing relationship with Him. Chaplains are called to provide emotional, mental, and spiritual care to those on the frontlines of life… encouraging them to “move out of ditches, towards a better destination”, including a deeper relationship with God. With the stress of the past few years, Marketplace Chaplains have been able to avert suicide, introduce workers to Jesus and connect workers to local churches. This is all brag worthy, but Jason Brown, the CMO of Marketplace Chaplains, said on today’s show, “don’t touch God’s glory.” And may we be the first to say that Marketplace Chaplains gives it all back to Him!

In addition to Jason, we also talk with chaplain and recruiter Paddy Warman about our basic human need to be seen and to experience connection, and with Roland Barlowe about how we all can experience ongoing missions in our work.

There are currently 400 openings for chaplains at Marketplace Chaplains. If you are looking for a way to invest in the workplace that will make a Kingdom impact, this might be for you!

The Affliction Of Misinformation
11-20-20 - New Podcast Episode Alert.png

Do you know what the number one affliction to render Christians impotent in living out their faith is the affliction of misinformation. So many of us have been told that to really serve in the kingdom of God, we need to be a pastor of a church or missionary overseas. That is an outright lie. You can be a pastor almost anywhere you go if you shepherd over people. You can be a missionary anywhere you go if there are lost people who need to find Jesus. Steve Kowalski figured this out. Steve has served in Hollywood and now he serves as a missionary in the Tampa Bay area. He ministers to people who need their stuff moved from one place to another. While he is moving peoples stuff, he tries to move their hearts to the only one who can bring them peace. Steve is here to tell his story.

Trusting God To Turn Life’s Difficulties Into Growth & Blessing
11-02-20 - New Podcast Episode Alert.png

Before our guest surrendered his life to God, his marriage was a ticking time bomb, only salvageable by divine intervention. His business was his idol, and he felt immense pressure to run others over with it. He was a walking ball of fear, which manifested itself as uncontrolled anger. But Christ changed all that, granting our guest the peace he had not realized was possible. Dedicating his life and his business to God didn’t take away all of his problems. Keeping his new restaurant, Peter D’s, and running the family business Demos Brands was incredibly challenging and was the source of some of his biggest business failures. But God used those failures to draw Peter Demos to Himself and make Peter more like Him. Learning to trust God to lead him through it all has turned those difficulties into growth and blessing in Peter’s life.
