Matthew 1:23 says, “…they shall call his name Immanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” I love this name for Jesus because it encapsulates the idea that God (GOD!) came down and became one of us. He chose to partner with humanity, to become a part of it, in order to bring about the salvation of the world. Similarly, throughout Jesus’ life, we see examples of him serving others and inviting others to serve with him. His life was characterized by relationship and care, and ours should be too!

The gift we are focusing on today is one that I have been giving away for about 15 years. That’s right. We’re talking about the gift of PRAYER. So why is prayer a gift, and why is it so special to give? One of the main reasons is because prayer gives to God, others, AND ourselves. Three birds, one stone - talk about a gift that keeps giving!

David knew that when it feels like God is far from us, the best remedy is remembering who God is and how He has worked on our behalf before. What are your mental photographs of God’s faithfulness? What are your memory stones? Do you have verses underlined in your bible, have you written down answered prayers, do you have a tattoo or a special trinket on a bookshelf to help you remember a way that God has provided for you?

Our words can build up or break down. This week I’m going to focus on the words that come out of my mouth. Instead of anything ugly or hateful, I’m going to wrap up my words as a beautiful gift and deliver grace to the person that receives them. What about you? What kind of words will come out of your mouth today?

Decisions made from the top down use God’s wisdom and God’s perspective. He has the perfect solution to the issues we are facing. How often in life have we made decisions with the wrong reference point?

Have you ever considered that the Body of Christ is spread out all over the world, in every imaginable workplace SO THAT MINISTRY can be done there? You are surrounded by people who need to be led to Jesus, so Pastor them!

I am thankful for the Word of God. I am often amazed at the freshness of the scripture. The Word of God is living and breathing and active. Truth is truth. Without Truth we are lost.

The very term "LAY" minister implies that there are two tiers in ministry. This word derives negative feelings in me about a two tiered system of importance in the kingdom.

Where did we get the idea that we HAVE to quit our job in order to be in ministry? You do not need to quit a perfectly good job that uses your skills, pays the bills, and fills a need.

This is a great opportunity to plan a neighborhood or workplace BBQ for those you live/work alongside every day. Martha and I will be reaching out to neighbors in our new neighborhood. How about you - will you step out of your comfort zone?
