Memorial Day Ruminations

This weekend is the official beginning of Summer.

There will be BBQ’s galore all over the country celebrating a three-day weekend.

But what is Memorial day weekend really all about?

According to Wikipedia, Memorial Day - aka "Decoration Day" - is:

a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces…Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day – Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, whereas Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

These sacrifices were made to keep all of us free while here on Earth. The greatest country in the world is a bastion of peace and freedom. This is made possible because our country was founded based on the freedom we have in Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Jesus came and died so that we:

“Might have life and live it to the fullest” [John 10:10]

Freedom always has a cost. Take some time to discuss this over the BBQ this weekend.

For the Kingdom. Jim
